Some Perspective

According to icasualties.org, 486 soldiers were killed in Iraq in 2003 (10 months) and 848 in 2004 (12 months), for a total of 1,334; an average of 60 per month.

According to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis, 42,884 people were killed in automobile accidents in the United States in 2003 (12 months) and 42,636 in 2004 (12 months), for a total of 85,520; an average of 3,563 per month.

This means that, on average, 5,938% more people per month were killed in automobile accidents in the United States than were killed in the war in Iraq.

Do you hear anyone saying that we should ban cars? Since we accept that people get killed in automobile accidents, shouldn't we also accept that people get killed in war?

To date, 1,978 Americans soldiers have been killed in Iraq (3/20/03 - 10/18/05). On December 7, 1941, and September 11, 2001, - just two days - nearly 6,000 were killed.

God bless all who stand in harm's way that we may be free.
