Global(oney) Warming

Just read a column from one of the unlimited supply of pseudoscientists trying to scare the crap out of us about global warming, which may or may not be happening, depending on who you listen to.

The real scientists who dispute global warming are being shut out in the cold and are finding their grant dollars drying up. Apparently, the only way to get grant money is to agree with today's prevailing belief.

"Every year since 1997 has been in the Top 10 list of hottest years, and 2005 set a record." Well, I had snow not only in the winter, but also in March and April 2006. And, for the first time in a long time, I have actually had a spring this year. Nonetheless, I'll probably still hear about how hot 2006 was.

What makes this column so remarkable is that the writer pointed out how climate change affected civilizations from as long as 4,200 years ago. Repeat after me: There was no internal combustion engine 4,200 years ago.

The Arctic area used to be a tropics. The Grand Canyon was formed by a glacier. Climate change has been happening for thousands of years. What on earth possesses these Chicken Littles to blame it on man? Further, what makes them think that we can affect it or stop it in any way?

When someone can accurately tell me whether or not it's going to rain tomorrow, I just might start listening to what they say might happen a decade from now.
