Somebody Out There's Listening
I wrote a recent column in which I commented on the high-handed efforts of Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert to limit searches of congressional offices when a criminal investigation is underway.
I said that his actions amounted to providing "a safe haven where 'lawmakers' can hide the evidence of their wrongdoing."
Well. Yesterday, a federal judge upheld the search of the office of Congressman William Jefferson (D-LA) saying that the lawmakers' "sweeping" theory of legislative privilege "would have the effect of converting every congressional office into a taxpayer-subsidized sanctuary for crime."
Isn't that what I said?

There may be hope in the criminal justice system yet.
