The Dangerous (and Empty) Arrogance of the Left

Those of us who fear the Democrats returning to power in November are not breathing any easier these days. After Nancy Pelosi’s appearance on “60 Minutes,” everyone who loves America and our way of life should be in full-blown panic. Never was the foolhardy arrogance of the Left more on display.

Despite the deaths of hundreds of terrorists in Iraq, she still believes that the front in the war on terror is in Afghanistan. The Left stubbornly clings to this myth, even though the recent discovery of more remains at Ground Zero shows that the “front” in this war is too close for comfort. She even went so far as to say that the jihadists will stay in Iraq so long as we’re there. Is she saying that they’ll leave once we leave? On what does she base this? Where does she think they’ll go? Will they behave like good little terrorists and go to Afghanistan? She didn’t say and, of course, Lesley Stahl didn’t ask. The Left-friendly press wasn’t about to put a Democrat in the position of having to say “I don’t know” on a question of national security so close to an election. And, unless Mrs. Pelosi has a direct connection to the terrorists, “I don’t know” would have been her only possible response.

But, what if the terrorists don’t go to Afghanistan? What if they use Iraq as their new base of operations and fund their butchery with Iraq’s oil revenues? There won’t be any oil revenues, you say. I beg to differ. Nations will be lining up to buy Iraq’s oil, and all the sanctions imposed by the toothless United Nations won’t be worth a tinker’s damn. Oil for Food, anyone?

The Democrats cut and ran on Vietnam, leaving millions to their doom. They are equally eager to do the same in Iraq. Rep. Charles Rangel has already said that he will cut off funding for our troops, which should disabuse you of any notion that Democrats in any way support our troops. How many will die, and not just in Iraq, if
America shows once again that it cannot be counted on when popular opinion gets in the way of doing what needs to be done? Since they showed no remorse for the Asian dead, my guess is that the Democrats won’t care. Until terrorism once again rears its ugly head here in America which, of course, will be Bush’s fault.

Mrs. Pelosi also said that President Bush was an incompetent leader that, in fact, he wasn’t even a leader at all, that he’s a person without judgment. If pulling our troops out of Iraq does more harm than good, then it will be pretty obvious that President Bush was not the one lacking in judgment.
