Charlie and the Soldier Factory

There are a number of reasons why Charles Rangel wants to reinstate the draft. One is that he is a racist. Since he’s a black democrat, however, he can get away with it. The only people who are really racists, as everyone knows, are white Republicans. Let me state this for the record: I never bought or owned a slave. I never oppressed anyone. I have no white guilt whatsoever for anything one of my long-gone ancestors may have done.

Let’s be honest. Democrats despite the military. They can dispute that all they want, but they really do despise the military. John Kerry didn’t botch a joke. He simply said what he really feels: members of the military are stupid. (Everyone knows that the smart guys marry rich women so they don’t ever have to work again.) And, despite the fact that America’s generals and our troops in Iraq have stated that it would be a disaster to just pull out of Iraq, democrat after democrat is demanding that we do just that. Ignoring the advice and warnings of people who have vastly more knowledge on a subject than you is not a sign of respect. It’s a sign of callous disregard.

If we simply pull out and leave Iraq to its fate, like we did in Vietnam, every American death will have been for nothing. Since the democrats didn’t care a whit about the 58,000 Americans who died in Vietnam, it’s a certainty that they’re not going to lose any sleep over the 2,900 Americans who have died in Iraq.

Mr. Rangel wants to reinstate the draft now to save embarrassment later. Retention levels have been met under President Bush because the military likes and respects him. But, what if retention levels fall under a democrat occupant of the White House? If the draft is made necessary because people won’t volunteer to serve under an individual who despises the military, then the Left can cover its collective fanny by claiming that the draft was already in place. That fact that it was reinstated at the urging of the Left will be drowned out by them constantly repeating, “We didn’t reinstate the draft. President Bush did.”
