Don't Worry, Be Happy

All we hear lately is that the Democrats are going to take back at least the House, maybe the Senate. The mainstream media, nearly 100% on the left, is just waiting to kick back and see all their hard work come to fruition. After all, if it wasn’t for their efforts to make sure that the public heard nothing but bad news from Iraq, the American public would not have turned against the war, would not have turned against President Bush, would not have turned against Republicans in general. It’s frightening that this small group has so much power and wields it so irresponsibly.

But that’s not the only reason things look so rosy for Democrats. According to the Left, the war on terror is really no big deal. According to the Left, Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror, so we can leave without consequence. After all, Iraq is just like Vietnam and nothing happened to us when we left Vietnam. Therefore, nothing will happen if we leave Iraq.

If the Left thought that islamofascists were really a threat, why then have they fought so hard against everything President Bush has done to keep us safe? They’re against the Patriot Act. They’re against the detention camp at Guantanamo Bay. They’re against rendering and aggressive interrogation techniques. They’re against the NSA wiretaps. They’re against profiling at airports. They’re against sealing off our southern border. What exactly are they for? If there really is a war on terror, if we really are in danger, wouldn’t they be for something?

I think 2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton answered those questions recently when she said that, “We should not hesitate to engage in the world’s most difficult conflicts on a diplomatic front.” Okay, let’s get Osama on the phone and set up a conference. I’m all for sending Jimmy Carter and/or Jesse Jackson. Oh, that’s right, we don’t know where he is. Braveheart has been in the wind since 9/11.

America is tired of war. President Bush is saying that we’re in this for the long haul, and the microwave generation doesn’t want to hear that anymore. America wants to hear good things, and "difficult conflicts" is more soothing than "global war on terror." Unfortunately the Left believes, really believes, that once they get back in charge everything will be alright.

Are they betting their lives on that, because they’re sure betting ours.
