Let's Be Fair
It’s more than unfortunate that the only part of governing that Republicans learned during their 12-year tenure as the majority party was how to spend money like drunken sailors. They never actually learned how to handle democrats. Instead of saying, “We’re the majority party and this is what we’re going to do,” they spent too much time kowtowing and trying to please the left, which was always going to be a losing battle. We’ll never know how much they could have accomplished if they had had a spine.
While it is appropriate to blame Republicans for their many failings, it is not appropriate to put all of the blame for Black Tuesday on them. We should never forget the efforts of the militantly anti-Bush, anti-Republican mainstream media. They wanted to turn public opinion against the war and, therefore, the President and whatever they had to do to achieve that goal was alright by them. Keep up the drumbeat about how bad everything is. That’s the ticket. An honest newscaster would report the good news as well as the bad, but who’s an honest newscaster these days. They’re obviously so few and far between that CBS had to hire Katie Couric.
And it wasn’t just the war. Mark Foley, who resigned as soon as it hit the fan, was fodder for weeks. Young closeted homosexual sending dirty e-mails to pages. Juicy! Meanwhile, Harry Reid (D-NV) makes a cool $1 million on some shady land deal and has to “amend” his disclosures, and the MSM yawns.
The only difference between our mainstream media and the state-controlled media of non-free and semi-free nations is who’s calling the shots. The end result is the same: we only hear what someone wants us to hear. While it’s true that we have alternatives that citizens of other countries don’t have, alternatives that enable us to hear the whole truth, that in no way excuses what the Left has done to the once proud Fourth Estate, which is now nothing more than the Department of Propaganda.
